An Outing in the Village: Authentic Laurentian Discoveries!

One of the 5 poles of Mont-Tremblant, the Village immerses its visitors in the wonderful Laurentian way of life. Located on the shores of Lac Mercier, it is a perfect place to discover the true authenticity that fuels conversations and creates unforgettable moments. During this trip to the Village, two bloggers visit a charming shop featuring unique accessories and gifts, a friendly resto-pub popular with Tremblant locals, as well as a musical performance in an intimate venue with outstanding acoustic quality.

Our first stop: Serendipité, an accessory and gift shop. This small, well-appointed and bright boutique, located right next door to the Sandwicherie, features a wide variety of design and original items meticulously selected with creative flair by the owner, Isabelle. Passionate and exuberant, she takes great pleasure in showing us the treasures in her showcases. Hand-painted dishes, cat shelters, reusable water bottles, scented candles, retro posters, and a host of other pretty items, which together, give a nod to the name of the shop meaning “the art of finding what one does not seek | serendipity”.

Two favourites from the shop

Nomaad Jewelry: A bracelet featuring a cord and snap closure made in Québec for $27. Get a second snap for $5 extra.

Homemade bath bombs: Mango or tangerine scented and priced at $6.50/1 bath bomb | $12.00/2 bath bombs | $16.50/3 bath bombs | $20.00/4 bath bombs.

Resto-Pub Au Coin

A few steps from the train station is Resto-Pub Au Coin, a popular restaurant frequented by Tremblant locals, who enjoy the friendly and laid back atmosphere. Reminiscent of a charming hotel of yesteryear, featuring woodwork and stained glass, we felt very warmly received. Good comforting dishes with Mediterranean flavours are offered to guests on 3 separate menus: restaurant, tapas and pub. For our part, having been a little chilled outside, we opt for the comfort of the pub menu. An onion soup (excellent!) and a steak with shallot sauce and fries for Kim as well as creamed spinach, followed by a pork burger with Dijon and onion confit called “burger du parc” for me. For drinks, we were tempted by the homemade sangria and a Black Velvet cocktail made with black beer and apple cider. Authentic atmosphere, good eats, and a selection of alcoholic beverages at affordable prices… what more could you ask for on a girls’ night out?

Spectacle Soirée Francouverte

To continue our tour, we attend a Soirées Francouverte concert at  Première Scène, a lively performance space with an impressive acoustic quality in the Village church.

The group Raffy, comprised of 4 musicians, starts the evening with a playful, energetic number, reminiscent of a summer breeze. The winners of the official 2011 MusicPlus Houseband contest play selections from their 2 successful albums: C’est le temps des vacances and  Folle de toi. Pop-style music with jazz and African overtones that you might listen to chase away the dreariness of a grey day or to celebrate a sunny one.

The Ouellette Family

In the second half, it is the Ouellette family’s turn to take the stage. From the very first moment, we discover the gift that staging this apparent family offers: attired in red sports jackets (very kitsch!), the 6 musicians begin their show and, as the pop-electro songs are performed, the atmosphere throughout the room becomes playful and crazy. Indeed, one of the group members brilliantly animates the transitions, never missing an opportunity to establish friendly contact with a spectator or to improvise short, humourous comments. Sometimes a parody, sometimes emotional, their 6-song repertoire including Hey Ça va? and Ce ne sont que des mots is so exhilarating that we ask for more! Moreover, this admirable group, whose beginnings go back to their recent participation in the Concours Francouverte last November, is currently in the process of creating – we suppose – and recording their first album!
